Vineyard is approx 6.5 acres. Baco (2005) with plantings of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Geisenheim, Gewürz, and Cab Franc coming in 2012 and 2013. 2017 was the first full harvest. The solid is classed as Hillier Clay Loam Soil hitting ribbons of fractured limestone and lots of fossils!
Dry-farmed and no irrigation system.
Rest of the fruit comes from Niagara (Ed Hughes , Craig Wismer).
Mackensie Brisbois et The Sproll Familly / Trail Estate
They opened the winery in 2014. It was a bit of a fast start after we took over a “hobby” vineyard in 2011. Mackenzie Brisbois joined us as both winemaker and vineyard manager in 2015.
A lot is done by taste.
They use wild ferment.
Natural malo usually occurs in barrel.
Skin contact times vary.
Their last two vintages of ORNG (Orange) wine have been on skin for 12 and 9 months – so much longer and totally unfiltered/unsulphured, more to come 😉
